Thriller Comparison-Miss Georgiou

Thriller Comparison
Do you think you have created a successful thriller sequence and why?
I believe the thriller sequence that my group created was to the best of our ability and it can have the potential to be a successful sequence to our target audience. I think this because the sequence portrays several key themes that can be recognized to the people watching the sequence for example the theme of a tense chase scene is obvious and is something we think the target audience will enjoy through the research we have carried out by using questionnaires.

I also think the thriller sequence that we created can be successful to our target audience category of the 15 rated as it holds several key conventions such as having an antagonist and protagonist and having a exciting chase scene.

Which micro element, best shows your creativity and understanding of thriller conventions the most?
I believe the micro element that best shows my groups creativity is the editing side of the sequence, this allowed the group to manipulate the sequence by adding different sound effects and using simple animations to make the scene of a better standard. In addition I believe that the other elements add further understanding the thriller conventions.

Compare your opening sequence to a successful thriller and explain how your thriller is conventional

Halloween Comparison-
A comparison can me made between the successful thriller film Halloween as it has several POV shots which are included in the opening sequence also this is very similar to the sequence I have created as my thriller sequence does also have numerous point of view shots within both characters. Furthermore the low key lighting in the opening scene of halloween can draw a comparison as my sequence is also set at night with a feeling of horror added within it.

In addition the narrative is similar as their is an innocent victim involved in both sequences as well as it is also a female victim and there also is a violent killer added within the sequence of both Halloween and my thriller. Another comparison can be made through the use of sound effects at different parts of the sequence as my group aimed to create a tense environment that halloween have created for their audience.

AS Evaluation- Question Seven

1)      Preliminary Task- Progression to the final sequence.

The purpose of the preliminary task was to explore the various camera angles that could be shown within our own opening sequence to the thriller film also the whole purpose of the task was to film someone walking into a room and speaking to someone in a minute conversation also it got the group to work as a team as we are going to be working together for the thriller sequence that we are creating and it got the group aware of a filming environment for getting filmed in the actual sequence.

From the task as a group we learnt the different camera angles that could be involved in the sequence that we create also we got used to how the tripod works on the camera but at first this was something that we struggled to work out also we struggled to plan what we was going to say to each other in the time that was given as well as this we had the struggle of moving the camera when filming also we had to repeat some of this because of background noise and to try and get the same exact position of the camera from each time of moving the camera.

The preliminary task was to explore the various camera angles that could be shown within our own opening sequence to the thriller film also the whole purpose of the task was to film someone walking into a room and speaking to someone in a minute conversation also it got the group to work as a team as we are going to be working together for the thriller sequence that we are creating and it got the group aware of a filming environment for getting filmed in the actual sequence.

Another strength of the preliminary task was it set out all the stages that we have to go through upon making the real opening sequence. A further strength of this task is it got us familiar as of how to edit a certain clip by using final cut pro for the final thriller sequence.

AS Evaluation-Question Five

How did you attack/address the audience?
Another way we addressed the audience is through vox pops as we interviewed several people about the kind of things that they would like to see in thriller films and from this we analysed the data and created a spreadsheet and through story boards the most popular answers of what people like to see in thriller films in addition this research allowed my group to create a thriller sequence that different kind of age groups can enjoy as well as our specific target audience.
b
Different posts from blogger also allowed me to analyse the different thriller films that are successful and the different types of micro elements that successful to thriller films also it gave me a chance to analyse the posts to find what works well in the industry.

AS Media Evaluation-Question Four

To continue the audience can build a relationship with the characters as the female represents the teenage female age group by showing a theme of being naive by walking through an alley way in the evening and the audience can build a relationship with the male character as he represents the figure and status of being dangerous and threatening to those that watch the sequence and another relationship can be built with the audience through the female victim being frightened as the audience could have felt this kind of situation that could happen to them or has felt like they have been chased before.

Audience Feedback-Miss Georgiou

Audience Feedback-Miss Georgiou
How is audience feedback important to a production?
Audience feedback is important to a production because it allows my group to gain the constructive critisism that was given out and helps us to improve the parts of the sequence that the audience felt needed improving. Audience feedback also allows the group to understand the parts of the sequence that the group done well in and the parts of the sequence that we need to address in order to make it better as a whole.

How did you receive audience feedback from your target audience?

We received audience feedback in several different ways for example we presented our sequence as a power point presentation to the class. We used this as a way of getting vital feedback from several students and we can use feedback sheets that were given out to improve the quality of the thriller sequence. Another way of receiving feedback was through the use of questionnaires

How would this feedback benefit your production and the industry?

The feedback benefits my group in numerous different ways for example it enables us to to identify the mistakes in the sequence and where slight different improvements that can be made from the rough cut to the final production of our film. The feedback allows us to change the different parts of the sequence to make it have a positive impact on the direction of the sequence instead of a negative impact.

Comments made on things we could work on

The narrative of our film was mentions by others as they felt it was one that certain aspects could be worked on for example making it clearer to the audience towards the start of the narrative and at the end of the narrative as well.

Another comment that was made is the lack of using sound effects to my groups advantage. The comments showed that we should include different types of sound effects to add more tension and suspense within the scene

A final comment that was made is the lighting of the sequence as people felt it was very dark and it made the sequence unclear of what happened at the end of the sequence.

How the group overcame these problems

We overcame the criticism on the narrative by using and developing more short scenes into the sequence which would hopefully make the sequence clearer to the audience.

The sound effects was an easy problem to overcome as we searched for suitable sound that can be added to the sequence to make a better effect to the sequence and in particular finding the correct sound for the chase scene in the forest was crucial to the sequence.

The lighting problem was another easy problem to overcome as we as a group just went and filmed the certain parts of the sequence that was deemed too dark by the audience. This made the sequence much more clearer and more understanding towards the audience.
